A Smidgen of Site News
Posted by Corey | May 23, 2011 at 1:06 pm

A little bit of news! As you can see, the “Events” listings have fallen to the wayside a bit. This is because I’ve been trying to find another plugin that will handle the events the way I’d like them to be handled. Currently, the events aren’t displayed anymore after their end date is passed, which is nice – but the actual event posts aren’t deleted from the site, meaning they’ll still show up in searches through Google/other search engines (but who really uses Bing! anyway?) and on the site itself. That’s kind of annoying. I haven’t found one that does…

Okay, so it’s a few days late, but here it is! Watch me stand and try to figure out what to do with my dumb, long arms!

ALBUM REVIEW: MARCO POLIO – Wireless Internet Radiation Poisoning
Posted by Justin | May 14, 2011 at 7:50 pm

Matt Hall has been busy.

Since re-locating to Plattsburgh, NY from Syracuse, NY after the loss of his former home/venue Castle Rockmoore, Matt has assisted locals in starting a new art space downtown, helped start numerous bands and projects (Long Cat, Neil Jung and Crazy Hoss, Welton Keating) and booked a great deal of DIY shows in the area.

Somehow, during all of this, he managed to record a new EP titled Wireless Internet Radiation Poisoning (OR: Healing and Cleansing in the Age of Anxiety). And it’s good. It’s really good.

I first had the privilege of  performing with Marco Polio…

Four Pipe Dreams I Have Entertained
Posted by Madeline Mary | May 11, 2011 at 1:46 am

1. Winning the Kentucky Derby

I think this is appealing to me for three main reasons. The first reason is that I’m from a part of the country (Chester County, Pennsylvania) where a lot of people breed and compete horses. Our newspapers basically drop everything else to cover stories about local horses like Smarty Jones making it to the Kentucky Derby and when the horses get hurt or die it’s like the end of the world. I saw grown men weep when they put Barbaro down. The second reason is that I think Seabiscuit (the movie and the actual…

RAW Frustrations: May 9, 2011
Posted by Corey | May 10, 2011 at 10:50 am

Well, here it is. My long-awaited (hah!) first pro-wrestling vlog. It’s not particularly funny or witty or insightful, but it gets me over that hump of not feeling like a COMPLETE tool while talking about pro-wrestling alone in my bedroom. To myself. I’m hoping that I’ll become more interesting and maybe a bit more animated as time goes on.

I had some trouble getting up the nerve to do it right away, so fellow site blogger Rob gave me this sterling advice:

If I could give you three pieces of unsolicited advice, they would be these:

- Script a…

The Politics of Vlogging
Posted by Corey | May 8, 2011 at 1:23 pm

Fellow Blogger Brad Modelle has urged me to produce a pro-wrestling vlog for the website. Initially, I thought the idea was great – I love pro-wrestling and most of it is annoying and stupid enough to openly complain about. In fact, I do it in the Punchsport Pagoda section of the Something Awful forums.

But things get a little murky when you’re staring at a camera alone in your apartment. For some reason, I can’t get past the idea that I’m going to have absolutely NOTHING to say and that I’ll just be droning on for minutes…

Game of Thrones
Posted by Abram | May 3, 2011 at 4:18 pm

I’m going to go right out and say it: I’m a nerd. I like video games and putting computers together and I run a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. However, I’ve never been much into fantasy at all. Sure, I read through the Lord of the Rings books in high school but that’s about it, I figured I would get out before I started caring about dragons. Game of Thrones is a show might change that.

For those not in the know, Game of Thrones is a new HBO drama based on fantasy juggernaut George R.R. Martin’s Song

Everyone who doesn’t listen to Dave House is an awful person.
Posted by Rob | at 12:41 am

Do you know Dave House? You should, because I love Dave House. I’m not talking about Dave Hause, the dude from the Loved Ones, though they have often been confused and once played together in a sort of ‘battle of the Dave H_uses’ thing. I’m talking about Dave House. He’s an acoustic singer/songwriter from England who used to be in a punk/hardcore band which, I suppose, also adequately describes Frank Turner, but Dave House is better than Frank Turner. Sure, Million Dead were an awesome band and Frank’s the one who gets all the radio airplay and festival slots and…

My Dream PC Build – Part I
Posted by Cool Kid City | May 1, 2011 at 5:44 pm

All the kids have been sending in letters – SO MANY LETTERS – asking the same question….

…but that question is wildly inappropriate, and I’m going to ask nicely that you all stay out of my personal affairs, and leave my grandmother out of things entirely. She hasn’t done anything to any of you. That video you sent in was disturbing and chilled my very soul. You know who you are. Quite frankly I think you should seek help from a trained psychiatric professional.

I’m getting off topic though. I want to spec out my dream PC build. I do…

Laura Stevenson & The Cans: Sit Resist
Posted by Corey | at 11:15 am

Laura Stevenson & The Cans has no reason to not take off like a rocket after releasing “Sit Resist”, their second full-length effort, on Don Giovanni Records. The combination of Laura Stevenson’s woeful crooning and the soulful music that backs her up is physically moving – absolutely, physically moving. Listening to this album, and any of their other work, evokes not just an emotion but a genuine human reaction generally reserved for that one line or one song that truly speaks to you. For Laura Stevenson & The Cans, that’s every line and every note of every song on…
